Behavior

  • Lying, getting caught in lies

  • Phone calls in private

  • Going to the gas station at all hours 

  • Defensiveness – playing the victim of everyone’s actions

  • Twisting your words back on you, making you feel crazy or guilty for asking anything

  • Frequent and extreme mood swings, anger or rage, unable to have a civil conversation

  • Changing the subject, avoiding eye contact, starting fights to justify leaving (especially at odd hours)

  • Blank stares when your question behavior, refusing to answer

  • Minimizing behaviors, making you feel like your perception is completely off

  • Any bizarre, out of character, strange or odd behavior that escalates and often becomes self destruction

  • Talking about suicide and self harm

  • Pawning things

  • Stealing (medicine, jewelry, small valuables, money) escalating to larger items

  • “Losing” money, valuables, receipts to prove purchase

  • Hiding tickets, misdemeanor charges, getting OMVI/DUI charges, especially if your child is not one to consume alcohol

Physical

  • Constant constipation

  • Sleeping all day 

  • Chronic illness, especially cold, flu/virus

  • Frequent accidents, leaving bruises, swelling or unusual sores on arms legs, hands or feet

  • Frequent bouts with diarrhea, stomach aches, digestive issues

  • Noticeable aging, acne, hair loss dry and damaged hair

  • Changes in eating habits, eating less, craving sweets

  • Dilated or pinpointed pupils

  • Damage to teeth, especially front teeth

  • Lots of “injuries” and frequent trips to the doctor

  • Lots of nose bleeds, lip sores, blisters on or around mouth

  • Frequent and long trips to the bathroom

  • Cellulitis and infections that make no sense

  • Different cadence in speech, slurring words, talking rapidly, grinding teeth

Observations

  • Missing spoons

  • Always needing money

  • Excessive mileage on car

  • Not going to work

  • Not being home as much as usual

  • New or unknown friends

  • Wearing long sleeves, closed shoes and long pants in summer

  • Avoidance/not attending family events

  • Staying gone longer periods of time and later than usual

  • Losing jobs frequently and often blaming someone else for it not working out

  • Spending more and more time at a friends house or with people your are not familiar with

  • Distancing from family, old friends, and loved ones

  • Dropping out of school/college  

  • Burn spots on clothing, furniture, car seats

  • Locking bedroom and bathroom doors

  • Smelling marijuana or a skunky unpleasant odor on your child

  • Strange smells coming from their room or bathroom

  • Rags with blood drops or stains

  • Finding cotton out of cigarettes, foil, balloon remnants, pop cans with burnt bottoms, wax paper, pieces of baggies, pieces of glass, used cheap lighters, pieces of straw

  • Finding purse straps, belts, or ropes in their possession

  • Things missing at home

  • Expensive clothes and shoes come up missing
